So, yeah, this happened on our last morning game drive before flying out of Singita Sasakwa, and we couldn’t have asked for more fun or a better parting gift.
Chris was undecided if she was even going to go out with Mike and Silas that last morning, but fortunately the packing was near done and we had planned a slightly later start time so there was even time for a quick yoga sesh and she was feeling up to a few more hours in the field.
We spent the first good light looking for new birds, and that was quite successful, so then it was on to find giraffes if possible for another opportunity to photograph them in good light. Although we saw no giraffes that morning, just as we were heading back from the largest watering hole, Silas heard the baboons. We spent a lot of time enjoying them. They had slept in the tree overnight and as the morning was just starting to warm, that’s when the little ones were getting active before it then becomes too hot. It seemed like there were babies on the move constantly as they scurried up, got pushed or fell back down, only to go right back up again.
We got back in time to clean up and have a nice final brunch at the main lodge. From that vantage point we saw 20 giraffes down below crossing the plain; so another nice parting gift there! Then we had to head on down to the airstrip for a grumetti air charter to take us to Kilimanjaro airport to begin the travel leg to Seychelles. The travel day was exhausting and deserves its own separate posting to follow.
